Product Review : Meguiar’s Endurance Tire Gel (G7516)
Meguiars Endurance Tire Gel is one of the best-known tire shine products available on the market today. It has been available for as long as I can remember and has always been a staple product in many car enthusiasts cleaning collection, and for good reason.
It is widely available and you can find it in nearly every car cleaning supply store across the world. I am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to trying new products, so when I’m re-stocking my own supplies I tend to go for a new product/brand each time so I rarely come back to a product I have already tried before – which is why I had completely overlooked the Meguiar’s stuff for a while.
I met up with one of my friends recently and noticed his tires looked REALLY good, and when I asked him what product was on them I was surprised to hear that it was the Meguiar’s Gel. This got me thinking, and I decided to pick up a bottle for myself to give it another go since it had been so long since I have used some on my own car.
Meguiar’s Endurance Tire Gel Review
If you have read any of my other posts on tire dressing you will already know that I am a big fan of high gloss / high shine products for my tires. It all comes down to personal preference ( some prefer a more natural and silky look on their tires ), but I tend to lean towards to that wet look, as it always has much more visual impact, especially when the rest of the car is spotlessly clean.
Given this products consistency and visual appearance I would assume that this tire gel is a silicone-based product as opposed to water-based – so may be worth noting if you are allergic to any of these types of product.
Price -This is a very reasonably priced product compared to other tire dressing that you can buy. It can usually be picked up for less than $10 which represents fantastic value for money as it is quite a large container ( 16oz in this bottle tested ) which means that it is going to last quite a long time.
Some of the other tire dressings I have used in the past have been a lot more expensive, especially considering you don’t get the same quantity of product.
One of the main claims of meguiar’s tire shine is that is long-lasting so that I am hoping that it lives up to its name, as one of the main problems I have with a lot of other tire dressing products that are available, is that they don’t last long enough especially if the tires have been exposed to rain etc.
Note: For Testing Purposes, I decided to go all out and use Meguiars Own Tire Dressing Applicator
How to Apply Meguiars Endurance Tire Gel
1. Before you even think about going near your tires with Meguiars tire gel ( or any other tire dressing for that matter ) you need to make sure your tires are completely clean before applying the product.
If you want the solution to bind to your tires properly and effectively you need to remove any dirt or residue from your tire wall. This can be done by doing your usual wash and dry process. ( Make sure the tires are fully dry for best results )
2. Take a small bit of the product and apply to your tire dressing applicator. I find that with Meguiars Tire Gel that a little goes a very long way with the product, and even a small amount can be quite effective. The picture below shows the amount that I usually recommend starting with – you can always re-coat if you think it is needed.
3.Work your way around the tire with the applicator and make sure that you cover all the tire wall with the product evenly.
4.Wipe off any excess you if you have gotten the product in any areas that you shouldn’t have.
5.Allow the tire dressing to dry fully ( 30 mins usually ) before driving anywhere, just as a precaution so you don’t end up with any sling.
Meguiars claims to be a non-sling dressing. I do find that it tends to sling less than some other more watery products, but I think that any dressing will sling if you tend to drive off immediately afterwards.
6. Re-apply if you want an even wetter look on your tires ( although a single coat of this product is usually quite glossy so I find that one coat is usually enough!)
Meguiars Endurance Tire Gel Results
I will let the picture below do the talking, but as usual, I found out that this product actually does give exceptional results when compared to a lot of other tire dressings. It gives a deep black wet finish on the tire – maybe some people would find it a little too glossy, but for me it is perfect.
To me, this looks like ( if not better than ) a tire that just rolled off the production line. For reference, this tire is about 8 months old and has been through its fair share of abuse. ( It comes with the territory of living in Ireland! )
I am currently running Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires in case anyone is wondering, they are outstanding!
How long does Meguiars Endurance Tire Gel last?
I have found that Meguiars endurance gel does last quite a long time when compared to some other tire dressings which can barely last a day or two. Given that it is called Endurance Tire Gel, you would kind of expect it ( or at least hope! )
I typically see results lasting for about 2 weeks before I need to re-apply this product ( If the weather is dry ) which I am happy with, to be honest. Given the size of the container for the price, and the very small amount that is needed to apply to your tires, overall I think it lasts pretty well and is good value for money.
Can you Use Meguiar’s Endurance Tire Gel on Trim?
Knowing that the key ingredients in most tire gels and the majority of trim dressings is basically silicone I thought there was no harm in trying Meguiars Endurance Tyre Gel on some of the plastic exterior bits. ( It is one test I like to try with all tire dressings I buy ).
I was pleasantly surprised by the result and found it to give the trim nice finish also! Go for it!
Is Meguiar’s Endurance Tire Gel Worth it? – Final Thoughts
I think this tire dressing is absolutely worth it. Given its dirt-cheap price, it represents exceptional value for money. If I wasn’t such a car cleaning freak and didn’t want to constantly try new products, Meguiar’s Endurance Tire Gel would probably be the only tire dressing I would ever buy.
What more do you need realistically? I have yet to find a product that beats it for the price.
